Nautilus Art Centre

Front of House upgrade

Port Lincoln City Council; Front of House PA.

Overview

In early 2024, TxRx was awarded the tender for upgrading the front-of-house sound system at Port Lincoln’s Nautilus Civic Centre. Competing with other top integrators, we were selected for our innovative approach and delivered the new sound system in July 2024.

Discoveries

  • Rider-Ready Sound System: The venue and City Council prioritized credibility within Australia’s live music touring circuit. To meet these high standards, we installed an advanced sound system powered by Adamson speakers and LAB Gruppen amplifiers, ensuring an exceptional audio experience.

  • Flexible Configuration: The venue supports various event modes, including large general admission events where sections of the stage are removed. We designed the sound system with flexibility in mind, allowing the repositioning of subwoofers and fill speakers into preset locations. Custom audio tuning ensures optimal sound quality regardless of seating configurations, minimizing acoustic variances.

  • Fire System Integration: In compliance with building codes, the sound system integrates with the fire alarm, automatically muting audio during emergencies to enhance safety.

  • Optimized Audio: Collaborating with Adamson’s sound engineers, we meticulously designed and commissioned the system to meet Adamson’s high standards and the venue’s requirements, ensuring clear and reliable audio throughout the space.

Project Achievements

Dynamic Control: The operating crew now enjoys the flexibility to control audio settings from any location within the venue, adjusting seamless and efficient.

  1. Preset Venue Modes: With a simple press of a button, staff can adjust audio profiles and timings to fit specific event setups. We provided multiple patch points on and beneath the stage, enabling convenient connections for Dante inputs or rerouted speakers to minimize tripping hazards while maintaining a consistent “engineered” audio environment.

  2. Manual Volume Control: To accommodate various event types, the venue operator has discrete control over individual volume levels for fill boxes, subwoofers, and front-of-house (FOH) speakers, allowing for a tailored sound experience.

  3. Future Expandability: Our system design anticipates future needs. Using a digital signal processor, the venue can seamlessly add additional audio sources, such as radio microphones, wired inputs, or conferencing equipment.

  4. Ongoing Support: As a TxRx-supported client, Port Lincoln Council benefits from ongoing service. We installed an onsite support PC to monitor the system and adjust during the Defects Liability Period (DLP), ensuring reliability and smooth operations.
